This was done for the Norwegian magazine "Arctic Femme" a magazine for women interested in outdoor life. (though I personally am not one of them...I rather watch a movie, eat chocolate and be home where it's warm and cosy...anywho) The illustration is for a story written by the magazine's fans on their forum. Every fan wrote a part of this story and the end result was ..well.. very interesting. it can be read here if interested: [link]
for those who do not understand Norwegian.. it's about Santa who(in this story) hates porridge (For those who are wondering why that's a big deal...Santa in Norway eats porridge after his gift-trip instead of cookies and milk...) He wants to try to make himself like it because he has to eat it so much on christmas eve, he has no choice. To resolve this issue, he makes an appointment with a hypnotherapist to try hypnosis, but unfortunately he finds out that the Doctor is evil and wants to get rid of Santa. A witch and Rudolph's uncle rescue him from this Doctor. They then accompany Santa to set out his journey to find help! the story has three different endings, given that it was written by different people. one is that a Troll gives him three magical rocks. These rocks were given to him by a woman the troll used to date who liked to eat fresh and healthy meals. She used these rocks in the troll's food to make the troll eat healthy. By putting the rocks in his porridge, Santa ends up loving his food. the second one is that he goes to a Norwegian chef and he gives him something as simple as vanilla sugar and Santa realizes that's all the porridge was missing and ends up loving it-- ofcourse. the last ending, I believe, is three angels who make Santa drink from a spring that cures hatred for food.
the illustration is the characters from the story. (if you haven't figured it out by now)
Happy Christmas everyone (I know its a couple of days late. but I think Christmas should last another month or two...don't we all just enjoy the holiday spirit in the malls with people bumping into you and cursing the day you were born? Happy New Year as well
One of those thing really have some itchy on me ! So... the background of it is so detailed at first look absolutely there is nothing special about it but the story is fitted with this.
i really like colors and characters faces ... most of all "Santa" himself. but something that make me crazy is frame/background that half-cutted the whole art
